Who Is AGiSS?

AGiSS is a software development company started in 1994 that specializes in software tools for the professional educator. AGiSS creates software tools that can be used by educators at all levels, from elementary school on up through college.

Educational Tools

The main focus of the software developed by AGiSS is a grade book program, commonly known as The Windows GradeBook (WinGrade). WinGrade was the first program created by AGiSS, and runs only on the Microsoft Windows family of operating systems (Windows 3.x, Windows 95/98, Windows Me, Windows NT, Windows 2000, and Windows XP). While WinGrade works only on the Windows platform, AGiSS is developing some grade book software tools that will work on any operating system. See the Latest Developments below for details.

Latest Developments

Given the popularity of Java and Personal Digital Assistants (PDA) AGiSS has started the development of three new products: WebJavaGrade, JavaGrade and JPdaGrade. JavaGrade is an operating system independent port of WinGrade that runs on the Java Virtual Machine (JVM) installed on your computer. If there is a JVM available from java.sun.com for your operating system, then you can run JavaGrade.

WebJavaGrade is nearly identical to JavaGrade, only it runs within the context of a web browser on any machine that has the Sun JRE 1.3 or higher (JavaRuntimeEnvironment = JRE) installed. WebJavaGrade server files can be installed on your own private web server or you can ask AGiSS to host your WebJavaGrade files. With WebJavaGrade you can access/modify your grades at anytime, from any computer that has access to the web server where WebJavaGrade is installed!

JPdaGrade is another port of WinGrade developed specifically for today’s PDAs. Like its cousin JavaGrade, JPdaGrade is built to run on a Java Virtual Machine designed specifically for the space and memory constrained PDAs. The JVM used on the PDA is provided from WabaSoft, and designed for the Windows CE, Windows Pocket PC, Windows Handheld based PDAs.
